Joomla 1.5 release near

joomlalogo.jpgSomething we are very excited about is the upcoming release of Joomla 1.5 - the latest iteration in what is easily our favourite all time website tool.

A quote direct from Joomla's own website (http://www.joomla.org) describes Joomla as the following:
"Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable."

At Black Knight Graphics, we have been using Joomla (or what was previously known as Mambo) for around 5 years, and even we are absolutely astounded with the extra features and simplicity thrown into Joomla 1.5.
The new version is still currently in development, but now at Release Candidate 2 stage which means the official, stable release is drawing very near. We simply can't wait to start using the new system with some of our clients.

Here's a list of what we've seen that's new and improved, and matters most for our clients:

  • New FTP layer means uploading files, modules and components is even easier, safer and securer than ever before.
  • Vastly improved media manager with multiple file upload handling.
  • Improved pagebreak and readmore handling, now with just one content window too.
  • New slick, simplified administration interface.
  • New image manager that allows u to insert images on the fly easier than ever before.
  • On the fly-preview (u don't need to save first before u can preview your changes).
  • Better SEF URL support.
  • Template Overrides, as the Joomla team call them, is a new feature that will allow us as developers to handle how your content and modules are displayed by making simple template adjustments and not have to modify core elements.

Watch this space for more info as Joomla goes through RC3, RC4 and then final release!
